Each person perceives and interprets the world in a unique way, shaped by their individual experiences and dominant filters. These filters are shaped by both their perspectives and personal history, as well as their genetic makeup.
There are five primary filters*:
When working with a team or analysing your own perspective, it's essential to identify which filters are dominant and understand how they affect your perception. Recognizing that others may have different filters can help promote understanding and collaboration.
To gain a better understanding of your own filters, consider reflecting on the language and perspectives you use in different situations. Can you Identify common themes, words and patterns, and consider whether you tend to focus on the present or future, use abstract thinking or prefer a more concrete approach, and prioritize organization or creativity.
*The Personal Genuine 2.0 program offers a specific test to help you identify your dominant filters, but in 1.0 we prefer you to take a moment to reflect on these things yourself first.
